Vehicle hand-out and return – photo requirement

Updated this week

Do I have to take pictures when handing out and returning a vehicle?

Yes. Photos are required at both pick-up (hand-out) and return for vehicle rentals on Hygglo.

This applies regardless of whether you are the lender or the borrower.

Taking photos is standard practice in the vehicle rental industry and is required to document the vehicle’s condition before and after the rental.

Who takes the pictures?

Both parties can take pictures, depending on who initiates the process.

Hand-out (pick-up)

  • If the borrower initiates the hand-out

    • The borrower uploads photos and reports any existing damage

    • The lender reviews and approves the photos to start the rental

  • If the lender initiates the hand-out

    • The lender uploads photos and reports any existing damage

    • The borrower does not need to take any action

Return

  • If the borrower initiates the return

    • The borrower uploads photos and reports any new damage

    • The lender reviews and approves the photos to finish the rental

  • If the lender initiates the return

    • The lender uploads photos and reports any new damage

    • The borrower does not need to take any action

What happens if the lender rejects the borrower’s photos?

If the lender rejects the photos uploaded by the borrower, the lender takes over the process and must upload the photos themselves.

Why are photos required?

Photos are required to:

  • Document the condition of the vehicle before and after the rental

  • Reduce misunderstandings and disputes

  • Meet insurance requirements

  • Protect both lenders and borrowers if damage occurs

Without proper photo documentation, insurance coverage and claims handling may be affected.

What if irrelevant or incorrect photos are uploaded?

Uploading irrelevant or incorrect images just to complete the process can negatively affect the lender’s ability to make an insurance claim.

Why did Hygglo introduce this requirement?

The photo flow was introduced as part of an improvement to vehicle rentals on Hygglo and is required to enable proper vehicle insurance.

It also:

  • Makes rentals clearer and safer

  • Reduces disputes

  • Brings Hygglo’s vehicle rentals more in line with professional car rental standards

  • Allows borrowers to confirm pick-up and return, a long-requested feature
