Hygglo Vehicle Insurance

When you rent out a vehicle through Hygglo in Sweden, Norway, Finland, or Denmark, it is primarily covered by our vehicle insurance provided by our insurance partner Omocom. This article outlines what the insurance includes, the coverage limits, excess amounts, and the key terms you need to follow for the insurance to be valid.

This insurance provides security for both the owner and the renter, covering theft, damage, breakdowns, and unexpected events during the rental period.

What types of vehicles are covered?

Covered in all markets (SE / NO / DK / FI):

  • Passenger cars and minibuses

  • Vans and light trucks

  • Trailers and boat trailers

  • Motorcycles and mopeds

Shared rules:

  • Max total weight: 3,500 kg

  • Max mileage (cars and vans): 300,000 km


What's included in the insurance?

  • Coverage for damage, theft, loss, and accidents

  • Roadside assistance 24/7 (conditions vary by country)

  • Reimbursement for travel costs if driver/passengers stranded

  • Vehicle retrieval costs if recovery from another location is needed

Personal belongings are not covered in any country.


Traffic-related damages (Third-party liability)

Traffic accidents involving third-party damage (e.g. another vehicle, person or property) must always be reported to the vehicle’s mandatory traffic insurance.

Hygglo’s vehicle insurance will reimburse the excess from your traffic insurance, up

to:

  • 10 000 SEK (Sweden)

  • 10 000 NOK (Norway)

  • 7 000 DKK (Denmark)

  • 1 000 EUR (Finland)

This insurance does not directly cover third-party liability. This is always handled by the vehicle’s regular traffic insurance.

Roadside assistance

Provided by:

Includes help with:

  • Flat tyre

  • Battery issues (jump-start)

  • Lockouts

  • Breakdown transport

  • Delivery of repaired vehicle

There is no excess for roadside assistance.

Note: Not available for unregistered trailers, mopeds or motorcycles.


When is the insurance valid?

It only applies if:

  • The rental is booked via Hygglo

  • The vehicle is in legal, roadworthy condition

  • The vehicle has valid traffic insurance (if required)

  • The vehicle is not under a driving ban

  • Only the person who booked it via Hygglo is allowed to drive

  • The renter is 23+ years old

  • The renter has held a valid licence for at least 2 years

  • The licence is issued in the EEA, UK or Switzerland

  • The renter is a resident of EEA, UK or Switzerland

  • The renter can provide a passport or national ID

  • The owner does not use the vehicle during the rental

Note: A different driver requires the booking to be cancelled and rebooked in that person’s name.


Where is the insurance valid?

Valid in and between:

  • EU and EEA countries

  • Albania, Andorra, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Monaco, Montenegro, North Macedonia, San Marino, Switzerland, Serbia

  • United Kingdom (including Isle of Man, Northern Ireland and Channel Islands)

Not valid in British overseas territories


What is not covered?

  • Cosmetic wear (scratches, superficial damage)

  • Pre-existing damage

  • Poor maintenance-related damage (low oil, overheating, rust, etc.)

  • Fuel loss, wrong fuel, or empty tank

  • Stunt driving, racing, illegal use

  • Third-party liability (see above)

  • Damage caused by rodents or weather (e.g. cold, moisture)

  • Unregistered mopeds/motorcycles used on public roads (FI-specific)

  • Income loss or loss of use

  • Personal items inside the vehicle

  • Vehicles over market value limit without tracking device

    • SE/NO: >500,000 kr

    • DK: >350,000 kr

    • FI: >50,000 EUR


Vehicles not covered by the vehicle insurance

Some vehicles listed on Hygglo are not covered by the vehicle insurance. However, they may still be protected under either the Hygglo Vehicle Guarantee or the general insurance, depending on the type of vehicle and the country where the rental takes place.

Covered by the Hygglo Vehicle Guarantee

  • Caravans

  • Campervans

  • Motorhomes

Important: These vehicle types are not covered by any insurance or guarantee in Denmark. As a result, they cannot be rented out in the Danish market.

What applies in the UK, US and Canada?

In UK, US and Canada, you are currently only allowed to rent out trailers. The coverage for UK, US and Canada is provided through our Lender Guarantee.

Coverage limits and excess

  • Coverage: up to 30 000 GBP / USD / CAD

  • Borrower excess: up to 150 GBP / USD / CAD

Other vehicles, such as vans, light commercial vehicles, motorhomes, caravans, snowmobiles, mopeds, quad bikes, and motorised machinery, may not be rented out in these markets and are not covered by any insurance or guarantee.

Roadside assistance is included where applicable and carries no excess.
