Lender’s Insurance Responsibilities When Renting Out Items on Hygglo
Updated this week

When you rent out items on Hygglo, it's essential to understand your insurance responsibilities. Making sure your items are properly protected helps avoid issues during or after the rental.

Understand the Insurance Types

Hygglo provides insurance coverage for many item categories, but not all—and only up to certain coverage limits. It’s your responsibility as a lender to ensure your item is fully covered.

Review the Insurance Terms

While Hygglo offers a summary in the FAQs, you should review the full insurance terms to:

  • Confirm your item is eligible for coverage.

  • Understand when and how insurance applies.

  • Check if additional insurance is needed.

  • Know the compensation limits and what’s included.

  • Understand how to handle claims if needed.

When You’ll Need Your Own Insurance

If your item isn’t fully covered by Hygglo’s insurance, you’ll need to secure your own coverage for the rental period.

Before listing your item, contact your insurance provider to confirm:

  • Your policy allows item rentals.

  • Coverage includes damage, theft, or loss during the rental.

This is only necessary if your item is not fully covered by Hygglo's insurance. Please note that cars and motorcycles are currently not allowed to be rented out through Hygglo, even if you, as the lender, have your own insurance for these vehicles.

Important: Hygglo Covers Items, Not Services

Hygglo only supports renting out items. Services are not allowed.

Examples of services (not covered by insurance):

  • Vehicle rentals that include a driver

  • Lender actively involved in using or managing their item during the rental

  • Actual services such as window cleaning, delivery, dog walking etc.

Rental Period = Insurance Period

Hygglo’s insurance only applies during the official rental period booked on the platform.

  • If a borrower wants to extend the rental, they must submit a new booking request.

  • Without a valid booking, the item is not covered.

Good to know: You can agree to let the borrower pick up the item the evening before or return it the morning after. Insurance still applies as long as this is agreed upon beforehand.

Keep Your Items in Good Condition

To maintain valid coverage:

  • Inspect your item before and after each rental.

  • Perform regular maintenance.

  • Report any damage immediately after a rental.

⚠️ Insurance does not cover normal wear and tear. If damage is due to poor maintenance, it might not be covered.

Always Use the Hygglo Platform for Payments

To stay protected:

  • Only accept payments through Hygglo.

  • Avoid side deals—these break Hygglo’s terms and invalidate your insurance.

You can settle extra charges (like fuel, tolls, or fines) directly with the borrower, but the main booking must be made through Hygglo.
