Important Things to Check When Hiring a Trailer

Updated over a month ago

Before You Set Off

  • Raise the jockey wheel fully – make sure it is not down when driving.

  • Release the brake if the trailer is braked, so it is free to move.

  • Ensure the tow hitch is securely locked onto the tow ball.

  • Check the electrics – plug in the cable and test indicators and brake lights.

  • Adjust the breakaway cable – it should not be too long or dragging on the ground.

While Driving

  • Take wider turns – the trailer makes your vehicle longer.

  • Be mindful of weight limits – overloading the trailer can be dangerous.

When Parking or Leaving the Trailer

  • Secure it with a lock – attach it to something fixed to prevent theft.
