Checklist: Things to Keep in Mind When Renting a Roof Box
Updated over 2 weeks ago

1. Check the weight – don’t overload

  • Verify your car’s maximum roof load capacity.

  • As a rule of thumb, most cars can handle around 100 kg, but you must deduct about 25 kg for the roof box and racks.

  • This leaves approximately 75 kg for luggage. For better stability, place heavy items in the car and lighter items in the roof box.

2. Secure your luggage

  • Always strap down the items inside the roof box to prevent movement and potential damage during braking.

3. Avoid overpacking

  • Do not force the roof box closed, as excessive pressure can crack or damage it.

4. Be aware of increased height

  • A roof box adds 40–60 cm to your car’s height, which can affect stability.

  • Check clearance before entering garages, parking structures, or areas with low overhead clearance.

5. Winter tip: Prevent frozen locks

  • Bring lock spray if you’re driving in cold weather to avoid frozen locks.
